This rare species grows on dry ground, in sunny or slightly shaded places, from steppe to oak forest levels, in various parts of Romania.

Perennial bulbotuber (corm) with 4-6 basal leafs that grow in spring. Flowers solitary, yellow. Anthesis in autumn.

Perianth segments with linear to narrow oblanceolate limb, standing at first errect and later patent. Styles free.

Stamens inserted at the limb's base.

Leaves appear after anthesis, in the spring.

Fruit is a subglobose capsule with numerous seeds, standing above earth level. Leaves considerably outgrow the fruit.

Leaves minutely fimbriate.
