This rare species grows only in the steppe area of Dobrogea.

Perennial bulbotuber (corm). Flowers single, deep yellow. Leaves present at anthesis (spring). Fruit is a capsule with numerous seeds.

Style orange-red, divided into 3 branches slightly expanded at the top. Anthers with blackish basal lobes.

Perianth segments oblanceolate to obovate, rounded at apex.

Leaf with whitish median stripe; margins sparsely ciliate.
