This species grows in the steppes of southern Dobrogea and is comparative new in the Romanian spontaneous flora. The exact subspecies has not yet been determined, not least because the large variability of the species.

Perennial bulbotuber (corm). Flowers single. Leaves present at anthesis (spring). Fruit is a capsule with numerous seeds.

The exterior of the perianth-segments is white or white with a lilac tinge, with no stripes. Leaves with white median stripe.

Style orange-red, divided into 3 branches slightly expanded at the top. Anthers 3, with blackish basal lobes.

Corm tunic papery.
